St Francis vs Worthing 4’s Match Report

Alex Dobson19 Jan - 11:10

Frannies start the year as they mean to go on

Bit of a strange one for yours truly as I had to watch the match not from my normal viewpoint of Full Back but on the touchline. This means I have no excuse with the comings and goings of the match. Worthing came to St Francis with a bulky squad (in every sense of the word) so we knew it would be a physical game. The visitors got the first points of the game through a try (couple of missed tackles from Frannies to blame here) but the heads didn’t drop one bit with Paulo breaking through and feeding the ball onto Jack Knight’s knee, grubbering the ball under the posts to score. Worthing hit back a couple of minutes later, with Frannies then getting a try in the corner chalked off (a knock on from what I could tell). Then a little moment of magic occurred from our winger Sam Stakalls, who starting from the halfway line dodged, ducked, dived and dodged his way to the tryline. Paulo then cut a fantastic line, burying two Worthing defenders with him, to crash over. Frannies up at halftime and we looked to be hitting our stride!

Half Time: 17-10

Not much happened in the first 10 minutes of the second half but then the game sprung into life when the ball was shifted quickly from left to right in Worthing’s 22 in which Dave (now playing at full back) found himself 2 on 1 and backed himself to dive over. When jogging back announcing to Sam who was on the outside of him, that he couldn’t possibly have let him have 2 tries. Worthing then reminded us that they wouldn’t be rolling over with a try but Paulo made sure the result was in the bag by dotting down under the posts. The final nail in the coffin was hammered by Linford, who barreled over to ensure a comprehensive 38-15 victory. Shoutouts go to the front row who were immense in the scrum, Ben at openside was chopping trees all game, Callum was a livewire both on the other flank and scrum half and to Rylan for bringing his girlfriend along to meet Uncle Steve for the first time. Still top but with Newick away in the cup and Pulborough away in the league over the coming weeks, tough games lay await but I have no doubt in the talent within this squad has what it takes!

Full Time: 38-15
